Spaghetti trees and Italian cooking courses
On this day in 1957 a documentary aired on British television all about the annual spaghetti harvest in Switzerland. At the time, spaghetti was not a common sight in the UK and the documentary was therefore able to persuade a large proportion of the population that spaghetti grew on trees. Yes, really. Therein started the trend for elaborate and well thought out April Fool’s jokes and of course the total paranoia most of us experience on the first of this month every year about everything we see, read and experience just in case all is not what it seems.
Spaghetti can now be found on most dining room tables in the UK at least a couple of times a month, usually accompanied by the obligatory bolognese sauce. If you really want to see where spaghetti comes from and maybe experiment with different ways to serve it then an Italian cookery holiday with GoLearnTo is ideal for you.
