The GoLearnTo internship sounded like the perfect post- requesting equal measures of passion for writing and travel, a creative eye and a willingness to get stuck in with all aspects of an internet company. I was thrilled to be offered a four week placement and couldn’t wait to start…
I arrived on GoLearnTo’s doorstep slightly nervous and still in shock after encountering the Northern line at rush hour. But soon after sitting down in the middle of the tight-knit and very hardworking team, I felt like I had been there for years. This might because of how friendly everyone was, or the open-plan office which had me working right next to the boss, but I think it had more to do with the level of responsibility that I was given almost straight away.
Vanessa, the very committed founder and CEO, soon had me editing the website, uploading photos and writing articles for new holidays. It was fantastic to have all my suggestions considered and be trusted to make changes to the website. This was an opportunity an intern would never have enjoyed at a big corporation- whilst I occasionally made the tea at GoLearnTo (no hardship as I drink about ten cups a day) I was given the freedom and responsibility to be an important part of the team and that was a great feeling.
But now my time has come to an end, and I’ve enjoyed every part of it. I’m leaving with a great insight into how an internet company delivers the best to its customers, plus fantastic journalistic experience and a real taste for working in the travel industry. Not forgetting a wish list of holiday destinations (ice cream making in Italy, anyone?) and a worrying new fondness for The Archers…
