Thinking of studying Italian this summer? Why not make the most of Sorrento’s fantastic location, laid-back southern Italian charm and outstanding views. Perched high on the cliffs Sorrento gazes out directly across the sea, a view stretching from the Bay of Naples all the way to Mt Vesuvius. The local area offers unspoiled countryside, the Amalfi Coast; Pompeii and many other archaeological sites not forgetting the fairy tale Island of Capri, there is something to suit everyone’s tastes. Here’s a blog, from one of our students learning Italian in Sorrento and determined to return….
In Sorrento the spring has come, the summer on the door step, the smell of lemon trees mixed with the sea breeze and a stampede of happy students ready to celebrate the most memorable weeks of their lives!
On Friday the 6th of May I went with all the Italian language students, groups and staff from the Italian language school in Sorrento to the near to Sorrento Marina, to celebrate a very happy language program which, by tradition of course, had to end with a delicious Italian lunch overlooking the bay…
Looking out across the calm sea with a scrumptious portion of “spaghetti e vongole” (a must try local pasta dish with shallow fried clams) and a healthy glass of homemade white wine, whilst thinking “could it get any better?” Well living here for good would probably top it up!
I spent a semester at the language school because I wanted to improve my Italian, but I also ended up doing a lot of other activities which proved a lot of fun: I learned how to make gelato, pizza, I did a ceramics course, went to an array of archaeological places and museums – both in the surrounding area and out of the region and much much more.
Another brilliant thing for a single student was that the school had a constant flow of new students and groups which meant I was meeting new people almost every week!
On top of that there often were organized activities with local people so I ended up becoming good friends with an Italian couple that took me around and about many times. People here are extremely friendly and most of them speak enough English to communicate so it makes it easy to get around when you first arrive and dive into the Italian ways…
The language school is just a 5 minute walk from the beach and the Marina where we went for lunch. This meant that April onwards I could finish my classes and go straight to beach to enjoy the warm sand and sun and relax reading my book!
I wish I could explain the amount of experiences and adventures I enjoyed during our time in Sorrento, but it would take an entire book! I’d definitely wish the recommend it to anyone who is thinking of spending some time studying abroad. It has changed the way I see life, people and my future too.
What next? Well I have to finish my degree but I am definitely coming back to Sorrento as soon as I get the chance!
I have made many friends here, it feels like I’m leaving part of my family, and that’s what I think makes a real difference…
Thank you to my wonderful Italian Language school in Sorrento!!!
From Italian language to pizza making lessons there’s a lot to do in Sorrento
