‘It’s just a treasure!’ – Cheryl reviews her cookery holiday in France

Cheryl and her husband Bob are novices when it comes to cooking, but their love of food led them to our Cookery Holiday in France and they enjoyed it so much they’re already looking at going back! Read about their experience here:

Have you been on a cookery holiday before and why did you choose this one?

We did a cooking holiday in Paris with GoLearnTo.com and it was so much fun so when we were planning another big trip in France and Italy we googled GoLearnTo.com and found this cookery course in Provence that we wanted to do because it looked like a nice place and it was with a Michelin star chef.

What was the highlight of the trip?LA CADIERE D'AZUR, FRANCE (1024x768)

Chef Jean himself was a highlight. He has such a wonderful personality and he was so welcoming. He took us through all sorts of technical tricks and cutting techniques. A real highlight was cutting an octopus and cooking it with herbs.

The staff at the hotel were a real highlight too. They were incredibly welcoming. We didn’t feel like visitors, we were made to feel like family.

What was the course like?

When we arrived in Provence we were welcomed into Chef Jean’s home, along with two friends we’d met in Madrid, two other women from Denmark and a few local chefs who were there to pick up new tips. It was great, it was really hands-on and I got to do everything myself which I liked. There was a big focus on tasting the dishes to get everything right, and we got to sample foods that weren’t part of the dinner to help to develop our palates. All the food was presented beautifully in lovely dishes.

Going to the market to get fresh ingredients was a lot of fun as well.

In the Jean’s home there was a wood fireplace, which had a grill on it. Jean bought sardines and mushrooms from the market and he grilled them over the real fire and served them during a break in the class – yum!

breakfast room at hotelWhat was the accommodation like?

It was over the top wonderful! The restaurant at the hotel was great and the bistro and the wine were excellent. There were beautiful views from the hotel, particularly at night. The bedroom was wonderful and decorated beautifully, in a very quaint French style.

Every morning there was a beautiful breakfast in a lovely dining room with very proper tea cups and plates and pretty tablecloths. There was a steam room, sauna, whirlpool, and I had a massage!

How was the booking process with GoLearnTo.com?

It was very easy and we were pleased with the clear and easy-to-follow instructions we received.

Would you go back to this cookery course or on another GoLearnTo.com holiday?
Yes definitely. It was a dream, I could just live there, anyone would love it, it’s just a treasure. And we are planning a two week trip to Thailand so we’d definitely look at cooking courses you run there.
