Perhaps unusually for a rapidly developing holiday location, the relationship between locals and tourists here is harmonious. One of the most liberal places in Ecuador, where same sex couples can be seen hand in hand. The beach is a collision site for cultures from all around the globe. Dynamic and welcoming, Montanita is the place to be.

Despite having a buzzing local nightlife, a host of tranquil villages are just a stone’s throw away. Want to explore?
