Learn the art of photography on this fun and relaxed digital photography weekend set in the beautiful white village of Jimena de la Frontera in Andalucia, Spain.
Aimed at beginner photographers and those with just a little experience, this great value digital photography weekend includes pretty much everything you’ll need for a photography holiday in Spain.
You will have great quality accommodation in stunning surroundings, delicious food, good wine, return transfers from Gibraltar airport and fun, hands on photography tuition taught by experts with a passion for photography.
During the weekend, you’ll explore this stunning area of Spain learning the basics of digital photography from your tutors Alberto and Sue who will help you get to grips with the basic controls of your camera (fancy cameras not needed, any digital camera is suitable), exposure, white balance, field controls which will all lead to greater creativity with your photography.
This weekend photography course in Spain capturing spectacular landscapes, dramatic seascapes, beautiful buildings, forests and stunning sunsets promises a unique learning experience that will stay with you long after the holiday is over.
Suitability
- This course is aimed at complete beginners through to those with just a little photography experience although more advanced photography enthusiasts can be catered for
- Please note that any digital camera you have will be suitable for this course
- Minimum age 18
- Courses have a maximum of 6 persons in each group, singles are welcome and there are NO single supplements making this a perfect choice for a singles holiday
- The course is focused on digital photography
Weekend Photography Course Start Days
- All arrivals are on Friday and departures are on Sunday although there is some degree of flexibility with the course so please email us on or call us on 08445 020 445 if you would like to arrive on an alternative date
- Most weekends are on request but we will always do our best to accommodate your request so please contact us with your preferred arrival dates to check availability, you will be assured a quick response
Typical Weekend Digital Photography Course Itinerary
Please note that itineraries change depending on the time of year, the weather, festivals happening in the area so the following itinerary is for guidance only:
Day 1 Friday - Arrival day and airport pick up
- Friday is your arrival day
- You’ll be collected from Gibraltar airport for flights that arrive between the hours of 5pm and 7pm (note: for all other arrival times, transfers are not included)
- After the short drive to the village, you’ll settle into your accommodation and will enjoy dinner that evening accompanied by wine and soft drinks
Day 2 Saturday – Getting to know your camera
- Enjoy breakfast before spending the first part of the morning at the house getting to know your individual cameras and their functions
- Lunch is included and is taken at the house
- After lunch once you have a better grasp of what your cameras can do you’ll set off with both photographers to the village to learn about exposure, depth of field controls, menu functions and more putting your new found skills into practice
- During the afternoon you'll become more confident and familiar with the controls of your camera allowing you to become more creative with your photography
- In the evening return to your accommodation and again enjoy a delicious dinner with wine
- After dinner, guests are invited to opt for a night shoot around the village to practice taking pictures at night and if there's a full moon you'll take a short drive to the cork forest to capture the stunning scenery lit by moonlight, but if you prefer, you can rise early on Sunday morning instead for a sunrise shoot
Day 3 Sunday – Creating great images
- If guests choose to, you can opt for an early morning sunrise shoot at Jimena castle before a wonderful Sunday brunch
- After breakfast / brunch, you’ll spend the day learning the basics of composition and the art of seeing a good photograph
- Today will be a mix of practical lectures and local field work in a relaxed and supportive environment with expert tuition that will ensure your weekend photography course takes you to the next level of photography
- Again, a leisurely lunch is included wherever your field assignment takes you
- You'll also learn to download images, understand file formats and receive a brief introduction to software editing including the photshop elements of Picasa
- Late afternoon, you’ll collect your bags ready for your flight home
- Transfers are included back to Gibraltar airport for flights that leave around 6pm and you’ll take home new photography skills and pictures to be proud of
- Note: if you are not flying out of Gibraltar or have flights leaving at other times, onward transport is at your own expense
What Will I Learn?
- As you are learning in a small group of no more than 6 people with 2 photographers, you’ll have expert guidance and tuition will be adapted to each client’s needs and your own individual digital cameras
- You will get to know the basics such as composition, depth of field, best use of your camera settings and how to ‘see’ a good photograph
- You'll receive an introduction to downloading images, different file formats, introduction to photo editing software including the photoshop elements of Picasa
- The weekend course will give you a great introduction to taking better pictures and aims to inspire you to take your photography skills to the next level
Shoot Locations
The shoot locations depend on the time of year and any events happening locally but you might visit one of the following:
- Jimena castle
- Shooting at various locations around the village, many of which are not open to the public and offer amazing views
- In and around the cork forest
- Down by the river and old ruins in the area
Your Photography Tutors
Passionate about photography, your hosts are both photographers with complementary skills. Sue is Australian and exhibits her photographs in both Australia and Spain in private and public collections. Alberto is Spanish and is a keen photographer with a passion for food, wine and Spain so you can expect not only a creative weekend but a cultural one.
Your Accommodation And Meals
- Accommodation is in a beautiful house built circa 1700 in the centre of the pueblo blanco Jimena de la Frontera
- The house sleeps a total of 6 people and consists of 2 self contained apartments with double bedroom, bathroom, kitchenette and lounge area and 1 double room with en-suite
- Rooms are restored to a high standard with comfortable beds, good quality linen, towels and all home comforts
- As the house only has 3 rooms, additional accommodation is available a few doors down the cobbled street in a house that was once part of a convent offering great bedrooms with private bathrooms of similar standards to the main house
- Singles are welcome and there’s no single supplement making this photography weekend a great singles holidays
- Check in is on Friday evening with check-out Sunday evening at the end of your course
- You will have breakfast daily at the house
- Lunch is usually taken either at the house or in a restaurant on location depending on where you are shooting that day, you may also have picnic lunches
- A fabulous dinner each night is included with wine and soft drinks where you’ll experience the fresh, seasonal food from the region cooked by your host Alberto who has a passion for food and many years experience cooking as he grew up in restaurants and lovingly cooks food sourced locally from the producers and markets (much of which is organic)
- Vegetarian and any dietary requests can be catered for, just add your special request at the time of booking
Extra Nights
- If you wish to come a day early or stay longer, we will do our best to accommodate you. Extra night prices vary but cost from £60 per night, if you’d like to extend your stay, please email with your ideal dates and we will come back to you with availability and prices very quickly
Transfers and Transport
- A pick up from Gibraltar airport is included in the price for arrivals between 5pm and 7pm on Friday night and departures between 6pm and 8pm on Sunday evening (no transfers are included outside of these times and the cost is your own)
- The village can also be reached from Malaga or Jerez airport and the village is on a train line if you don’t want to drive
- You will be out and about for most of the day around the village and local area and all transport will be included as you get off the beaten track, down dirt roads, through forests and out to beaches
Weather Conditions and Itinerary
- Your photography tutors will alter the itinerary if the weather doesn’t offer the best conditions for photographing the area
What To Bring
- Bring your own digital camera (with manual), charger and memory cards and if you have one; a tripod
- Note: It is not necessary to have any particular kind of digital camera as this course is designed mainly for beginners to help you get to grips with your camera and to get the best pictures out of it
- You may wish to bring a laptop to download your photographs but this is not essential
- Please bring suitable footwear for walking as you will be spending a lot of time exploring the different areas and a sun hat and rain jacket (just in case!)
