Be a part of the “World’s Largest Party” this February in Salvador da Bahia on this unique Carnival and Portuguese 2 week package including accommodation with a local family.
Forget Rio, this is officially the largest street party in the world where, for an entire week, 2 million people from all over the world come to party through 15 miles of streets, avenues and squares.
You will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the music, dance and electric atmosphere of the Carnival and even take part in one of the samba “blocos” with the staff and students from the Portuguese language school.
During the first week you will learn Portuguese at the language school and the second week is dedicated to carnival parties.

Carnival and Portuguese Course Start Date
- You will arrive at your home stay accommodation on Sunday 27 February
- Your Portuguese language course will start on Monday 28 February
Week 1 - Portuguese Lessons Schedule
- Classes run daily Monday through to Friday during your first week only (note: The language school closes during your 2nd week)
- Classes start at 9am
- You will have 4 group classes per day lasting 50 minutes each
- You will have a short break between each class
- Afternoons and evenings are free
- Please note that lessons are only taken during week 1, week 2 is free to enjoy the parties
Carnival Time
- The Salvador da Bahia Carnival begins on Thursday 3 March until Wednesday 9 March for a total of 7 days
- You will have plenty of time to enjoy all the festival events and during your time in Salvador, you will join a samba bloco accompanied by the language school teachers and students
How Will I Learn Portuguese?
- Portuguese lessons are focused on having fun and classes are highly interactive
- You will focus on the four main language skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening
- There will be individual and group work such as role plays and conversation practice
- You’ll also work on developing your grammar in practical contexts
- You will learn with a wide range of teaching aids; language text books, Brazilian press, audio/video, Brazilian songs or games and each week your linguistic skills are assessed to ensure you are always in the right group for your level
- Please note all Portuguese lessons will be held in the native language of Portuguese; a proven teaching technique that will fully immerse you in the language and accelerate your learning experience
Free Time in Salvador, Brazil
Many people on language holidays travel solo so the language school organises a host of social and cultural activities each week to help you to get to know your fellow classmates and to integrate you into the Brazilian way of life, some activities are free and others have a small charge and may include:
- The school offers free cultural activities such as Capoeira and Samba dance classes
- Relax on Salvador’s beautiful beaches
- During your time here, most free time is dedicated to joining in the carnival
- Free internet access
- You will have plenty of free time to explore the local area and practice your new found language skills or just join the party on this language learning holiday
Home Stay Accommodation
- Accommodation is included in the price of the course, you will check-in on Sunday 27 February and check out on Saturday 12 March (total of 13 nights)
- You may arrive at your host family’s home anytime after 12pm on Sunday
- You will be provided with a single room with a local host family to ensure you experience the true Brazilian way of life
- You will share a bathroom with the family
- Your host may be a single person, a couple or a family and other students may be staying with the same family
- Breakfast is included for the duration of your stay
- If you have any dietary requirements, please enter these in the special requirements box during the booking
- All families and accommodation is inspected by the school regularly
Portuguese Language Level Test
- Please arrive at the school by 8.30am on your first day for a short level test
- This test will assess your understanding of the language and will help the course organisers to place you in the right group class for your level
Other Information
- We recommend you bring a small dictionary, pens and paper with you
- Please note that a compulsory Carnival booking fee is payable & has already been included in the price
