During your Spanish course you will be taught to speak Spanish by highly qualified native Spanish speakers who have a passion for teaching and use proven language teaching techniques.
Lessons are highly interactive, you’ll be taught in Spanish and you will speak Spanish from day 1 both inside and outside of the classroom.

Spanish And Surfing Lessons Start Days
- The school is open year round
- Please note no lessons will be held on public holidays, dates can be found on the ‘Course Overview’ page
- Spanish and Surf courses start on Mondays throughout the year
- If you book the optional accommodation with this learning holiday, you’ll check-in on Sunday before the course starts
How Will I Learn Spanish?
- Spanish courses are focused on having fun and classes are highly interactive
- You will focus on the four main Spanish language skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening
- There will be individual and group work such as role plays and conversation practice
- You’ll also work on developing your grammar in practical contexts
- You will learn with a wide range of teaching aids; language text books, Spanish press, audio/video, Spanish songs or games and each week your linguistic skills are assessed to ensure you are always in the right group for your level
- Please note all Spanish lessons will be held in the native language of Spanish; a proven teaching technique that will fully immerse you in the language and accelerate your learning experience
What Will I Learn During The Surfing Lessons?
- All lessons will include the surfing basics according to your level such as surfing theory, water safety, surfing techniques, surf etiquette and wave selection
- Your instructors will take you to the best surf spots to suit your needs and ability
- Surfing lessons will include coastline knowledge, rips, local conditions, safety issues, weather forecasts and more
- As a beginner you will learn how to handle a board, how to paddle, catch white waves, pop up on the board and standing up in the foam
- As an intermediate surfer, certified surf instructors will work with you improve your surfing techniques, such as, perfecting your style, duck diving, cut backs, front side and back side turns and more
Spanish Lessons Schedule
- Classes start at 8am or 10am each day depending on your language level and classes run daily Monday through to Friday each week
- You will have 4 group classes per day lasting 1 hour each
- Grammar lessons will be held in the morning, 8-10am or 10am-12pm
- Conversation and listening lessons will take place in the afternoon, 1-3pm or 3-5pm
- You will have a 3 hour break between lessons and during this time you will usually hit the surf
Surfing Lessons Schedule
- After your Spanish language lessons you will hit the beach to learn to surf
- Surfing lessons will take place Monday to Friday, you will have 5 lessons per week lasting 1.5hours each
- Surf equipment is included during your lessons; however, if you wish to rent a surfboard outside your surf lessons you can rent them for approximately US$50 (1 week) or US$80 (2 weeks)
Free Time In Ecuador
Many people on these holiday courses travel solo as they make perfect singles holidays so the language school organises a host of social and cultural activities each week to help you to get to know your fellow classmates and to integrate you into the Spanish way of life, some activities are free and others have a small charge and may include:
- Learn to surf at this world class location

- Whale watching
- Cooking classes
- Surf tours to other surf spots along the coast
- Dancing
- You will have plenty of free time to explore the local area and practice your new found language skills or just kick back and relax on this language learning holiday
Spanish Language Level Test
- On your first day, you’ll arrive at the school at 7.40am for a short language level test
- This test will assess your understanding of the language and will help the course organisers to place you in the right group class for your level
- After the test you will have a short orientation of the school before an orientation of the town later that day
Other Information
- We recommend that you take a small Spanish dictionary, pens and paper with you
- Text books are provided but you will be required to leave a small deposit so you can use them for the duration of your course, when you return them you will receive your deposit back or you can keep them
Surf Conditions
- Montanita provides consistent waves throughout the year
- Considered to be the surf capital of Ecuador and one of the best surf locations in South America there are conditions to suit all surfing levels and abilities
- Calm swells provide excellent conditions for beginners to practice whereas more advanced surfers can experience the power point tubular swell called “La Punta”
- Maximum wave height can reach around 3 metres (10 feet)
Optional Accommodation
- This language school offers a choice of optional accommodation either staying with a local Ecuadorian family to immerse yourself in the local culture and practice your Spanish or in an eco-friendly ‘cabana’
