Look at the world from a different perspective on this 5 week PADI Divemaster course at Big Buddha Beach in Thailand and experience life at a different depth.
This course will prepare you for a scuba diving career as you learn the skills and techniques to reach the leadership level of Divemaster opening up a world of possibilities.
You will reach the level of Divemaster through structured pool, open water, and classroom instruction. Not only will you prepare yourself for a career with the diving community, you will also develop self- confidence, public speaking, and social skills.
Combine scuba diving dive master training with leisure as you relax in your free time in one of Thailand's world-renowned island destinations; Koh Samui.

Important - Course Pre-Requisites
This course requires you to have completed the early stages of scuba diving before you can proceed to Divemaster. You must be certified as follows before starting this course:
- You must have your PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certification
- You must have your PADI Rescue Diver certification
- You must have completed and logged at least 20 dives as documented by your personal log book
-You must provide proof of Emergency First Response Primary Care (CPR) and Secondary Care (First Aid) training (or other qualifying CPR/first aid training) within the last 24 months
It is possible to start the course if you don’t have your PADI qualifications but do have a qualifying certification from another training organization (a qualifying certification is defined as proof of certification beyond entry level, and proof of 20 or more logged dives documenting experience in deep diving and under water navigation)

Important Medical Information
-You must provide a medical clearance for diving signed by a physician, attesting to fitness to dive, note: the medical clearance must be current within the previous 12 months
- We recommend you check with your doctor that you are fit to scuba dive before booking to avoid cancellation charges

Divemaster Class Schedule
- Classroom and pool training days start at 9am some mornings and days out on the boat start at 7am
- Classes run daily, you can take weekends off if you prefer and should be requested with your divemaster instructor on arrival
- You will have around 7 hours of tuition each day including theory and practical lessons
- Note: accommodation is not included but we recommend you stay close to the dive centre at Big Buddha Beach due to the early starts
Divemaster Course Itinerary
This Divemaster course is all about practical experience and gaining knowledge of the dive industry. It is not possible to provide an exact course itinerary as this is subject to change depending on the students progress and the diving conditions but you will receive the following:
- 1 day of classroom lectures during the course
- A minimum of 7 days of pool training sessions
- A minimum of 7 days of boat training sessions
Note: training sessions are evaluated by the instructor and they may be repeated depending on your progress
- As a Divemaster trainee, you’ll complete 9 knowledge reviews in the Divemaster Manual during self study as well as completing 8 exams in various topics, you must also complete a total of 60 logged dives (40 dives as you must have 20 logged dives before starting this course)
- You must also pass a waterskills and stamina evaluation during your course which include:
400 m swim
15 minutes float/tread
800 m snorkel swim
100 m tired diver tow
- During the 6 weeks, you’ll be working with real dive students and real certified divers, to gain practical experience dealing with customers and the daily life at a dive centre
- Through a blend of classroom sessions mixed with practical application you will achieve the status of Dive Master, the first step in turning your diving interest into a rewarding career
- At this point your presentation and instruction skills will be honed, you will have assignments, and you will take the PADI Dive Master examination at the end of the course
- The program emphasizes flexibility in its teachings, so that you will be able to easily adapt your theoretical and practical knowledge to any dive operation anywhere in the world
- You will have the required experience to confidently enter the diving industry and to lead dives, work on dive boats, and teach qualified courses opening up a whole new world and allowing you to really experience life at a different depth
Divemaster Location
Lamai Beach
The first few days of the Divemaster course will take place at Lamai Beach. This is the location of:
- The training centre
- Classroom
- Pool training
Big Buddha Beach
This is where the boat leaves for the dive trips, the meeting point will be at the diving school shop and equipment centre at 7am where you will help organise the day as part of your course.
This is the location of:
- Boat for the dive trips
- Equipment centre for dive trips
- The dive shop
It is recommended that you find accommodation near to Big Buddha beach as transport can only be arranged from Big Buddha Beach to Lamai Beach not vice versa. Especially as you will be required at the Big Buddha Beach location early in the morning staying nearby will make it easier.
Divemaster Certification
- You must have completed 60 logged dives, including night diving, deep diving and underwater navigation
- Please note that once you have successfully completed the PADI Divemaster certification, you will need to pay a PADI membership fee of $150 Australian Dollars (paid locally) to become a professional member of the PADI organization and also to be able to work as a Divemaster
- You must read and agree to abide by the PADI membership and license agreement
What Will I Learn?
-You will develop the knowledge, attitude, judgment and skills to supervise certified divers in shore-based and boat-based diving activities and also to assist training divers in PADI courses
- You will be able to develop the student’s dive theory knowledge, water and rescue skills
-You will acquire necessary experience on all levels in order to enter the PADI Assistant Instructor course as well the PADI Instructor Development Course
Weather Conditions
- For safety reasons, courses will be completed in sheltered areas of the dive centre in the event of bad weather and if weather dictates you can’t dive that day, classes will be rescheduled
Who Will I Meet On The Dive Master Course?
- Classes are typically made up of international travellers, many of whom are taking a gap year either following their studies or in order to make a career change
- Some are also looking simply to expand their appreciation of marine life, to work abroad or who are looking to explore underwater photography or videography
