Make the most of the stunning beaches and combine your Spanish course with the thrilling water sport of surfing on this Spanish and surfing holiday in the popular surf spot of Playa Tamarindo in Costa Rica where you will learn to surf with experienced instructors.

This package also includes accommodation in the popular El Mar student house located just one block from the language school and beach. You will share the house and surrounding gardens with other Spanish language students and breakfast at the school or a local restaurant is included.

Who Are Our Guests?
- People come from all over the world and you’ll never be placed in a class with just English speakers so that you use the language you are learning rather than resorting to chatting in English
- Ages vary, but the typical language learner falls in to the 20-60 age bracket though we have no age limit and we’ve had guests in their 70s and 80s studying languages with us
- During the summer and in university holiday times the average age typically drops and there are many guests in their 20s
- Over 90% of our language learners travel solo and every school organises social and cultural activities to help you get to know others at the school outside of class
- Of course, everyone shares a passion or interest in discovering a new language and culture


Spanish And Surfing Lessons Start Days
- The school is open year round with a short break for Christmas
- Spanish and surf courses start on Mondays throughout the year
- If you book the optional accommodation with this learning holiday, you’ll check-in on Sunday before the course starts


How Will I Learn Spanish?
- Spanish courses are focused on having fun and classes are highly interactive
- You will focus on the four main Spanish language skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening
- There will be individual and group work such as role plays and conversation practice
- You’ll also work on developing your grammar in practical contexts
- You will learn with a wide range of teaching aids; language text books, Costa Rican press, audio/video, local songs or games and each week your linguistic skills are assessed to ensure you are always in the right group for your level
- Everyday the students will be required to do approximately one hour of homework
- Please note all Spanish lessons will be held in the native language of Spanish; a proven teaching technique that will fully immerse you in the language and accelerate your learning experience


What Will I Learn During The Surfing Lessons?
- All lessons will include the surfing basics according to your level such as surfing theory, water safety, surfing techniques, surf etiquette and wave selection
- Your instructors will take you to the best surf spots to suit your needs and ability
- Surfing lessons will include coastline knowledge, rips, local conditions, safety issues, weather forecasts and more
- As a beginner you will learn how to handle a board, how to paddle, catch white waves, pop up on the board and standing up in the foam
- As an intermediate surfer, certified surf instructors will work with you improve your surfing techniques, such as, perfecting your style, duck diving, cut backs, front side and back side turns and more


Spanish Course Schedule
- Classes start at 8am or 1pm each day year round depending on your language level
- Classes run daily Monday through to Friday each week
- You will have 4 group classes per day lasting 55 minutes each
- Many lessons take place outdoors, walking in the nature reserves, outings to the local town and visits to local business to gather information and practice what you have learnt in the classroom


Surfing Lessons Schedule
- You will hit the beach to learn to surf at the weekend or after your Spanish lessons
- You will have 2, 2 hour surf lessons during the week
- The exact time and day of your surf lessons will be confirmed on arrival at the language school
- The surf course includes free board hire throughout the week so you can practice your new surfing skills in your free time


Student House Accommodation In Costa Rica
- Stay in the El Mar student house with other students from the language school
- The student house is set in a tropical garden and located one block from the school and beach
- The house has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, a large communal kitchen, lounge, outdoor sitting area and a garden with hammocks
- You will share a room and bathroom
- One room is large with a private bathroom, the midsize and small bedroom share a bathroom
- All rooms have a fan and the showers have hot water
- Accommodation at the El Mar student house is included from Sunday to Sunday
- You may arrive any time on Sunday afternoon
- You will have your own keys and are completely free to come and go as you please


Meals Included
- Breakfast is included daily at the school or a local restaurant
- If you have any dietary needs, please enter these in the special requests box during booking


Free Time In Playa Tamarindo
Many people on these holiday courses travel solo as they make perfect singles holidays so the language school organises a host of social and cultural activities each week to help you to get to know your fellow classmates and to integrate you into the Costa Rican way of life, some activities are free and others have a small charge and may include:
- Volleyball and football on the beach
- BBQs at the school
- Hiking trips to watch the sun set
- Dance lessons
- Dinner and pool parties at the student houses
- There are a variety of weekend excursions you can take part in such as visits to the volcano, one of the many national parks or the rain forest
- During October to February, the school offers an excursion to see the giant Leatherback sea turtles nest on the beach
- You will have plenty of free time to explore the local area and practice your new found language skills or just kick back and relax on this language learning holiday


Spanish Language Level Test
- Please arrive at the school by 7.15am on your first day for a short level test
- This test will assess your understanding of the language and will help the course organisers to place you in the right group class for your level


Other Information
- We recommend that you take a small Spanish dictionary, pens and paper with you
