Spend 3 nights / 4 days on a surf holiday in the beautiful old town right on the bustling port of Essaouira and enjoy the stunning landscapes and excellent surf conditions in this spectacular area of Morocco.
Stay in a gorgeous boutique style Riad close to the beach and just a few steps from the Medina for a surf break with an added touch of luxury!
Riding a wave is a magical moment, whether you are new to the sport or an experienced rider looking for the best spots to surf there is something available for you. This excellent surf school offers surfing lessons everyday to help you capture the feeling of being on top of the world as you stand up and take your first wave.
Courses for beginners are run on Essaouira beach where the conditions are ideal for those starting out on their surf adventure. For the more experienced surfers there are great local spots of Sidi Kaouki, Taghazout and much more, perfect locations in which to indulge your passion for surfing.
Essaouira has its own welcoming and bohemian atmosphere and is a great place to sit in beach-front cafes sipping drinks and listening to Gnawa music. When you’re not surfing you can visit the maze of Souks, the relaxing hammans or enjoy a mint tea on your roof terrace as the sun sets for a Moroccan surf holiday with a difference.
Suitability
- Suitable for all levels from complete beginners to those that have surfed before and are looking to perfect their technique
- Note: beginners can start surfing on foam boards with greater volume and float to assist with the learning process and get you standing quickly
- You must be able to swim
- Minimum age 18
- Surfing is great fun for everyone but it’s best to bear in mind that it can be physically demanding sometimes
- Lessons are available in English, French, Spanish and Arabic
Travelling Solo?
- These surfing holidays make great singles holidays and singles will have their own private room at the boutique style Riad for a supplement, click on the 'costing and extras' tab to check the single supplement prices
- Essaouira is very relaxed and welcoming town with a great Bohemian feel because of its music and art scene
- The majority of people who take these courses are solo travellers especially female and everyone loves the location
- The Riad where the accommodation is held is also very central, just 2 minutes walk from the surf shop in the centre of town
- The instructors and guests often go meet at the surf shop in the evenings to have a tea and often go out for dinner together

- Holidays run year round taking advantage of the great weather and arrivals are accepted on any day of the year
- Surfing holidays are for 3 nights / 4 days

- If dates appear ‘on request’ please email us and we’ll check availability for your preferred day of arrival as quickly as possible
Surfing Holiday Itinerary
The itinerary is for guidance only and is subject to change depending on the group’s needs and wishes but is typically as follows:
Day 1 Arrival And Pick Up
- You’ll be collected from Marrakech or Agadir airport and transferred to your accommodation in Essaouira (around 2.5 hours drive)
- You will have time to settle into your room in the unique Moroccan Riad and soak up the creative atmosphere. In the evening you will enjoy a traditional Moroccan meal and mint tea
Days 2 & 3 - Surfing
- Each day, enjoy a leisurely breakfast
- You will have 6 hours of surfing lessons during the course
- You will set out with your instructor in the morning to find the best waves, transport is provided
- You are free to take breaks when you want, if you feel tired you can just sit on the beach and soak up some sun
Day 4 – Departure day
- After breakfast you will check out of the Riad in time to be taken to the airport for your return flight
About The Instructors
- All instructors are fully qualified and are multi-lingual
- Your experience is at the heart of what they do and every instructor wants to ensure you have a great time
- They can tailor and create the experience to your needs and level
About The Equipment
- You will be kitted out in top quality wetsuits and boards
- This school has many sizes and boards in varying thicknesses
- If you are a complete beginner, you can use a board with higher volume and buoyancy float during the first few days, switching to a smaller, more manoeuvrable board as you improve
- Please note that you have around 3 hours of lessons per day but if that’s not enough for you and you still have some energy left after your lessons, you can always hire the equipment for use in your free time if you would like to practice your surfing skills (around 12 Euros per day)
What Will I Learn?
- Elementary water safety
- To understand your surf board, where to find the rails, the nose, the stringer and the sweet spot!
- Theory lessons on types of breaks, surf board design, equipment and history
- How to control the board in the water
- Where and how to position yourself to catch a wave
- How to clear the breaking zone and deal with white water
- Line up positioning
- How to paddle to catch the waves
- How to balance standing and lying on the board
- How to stand on your board beginning with a knees to standing action (slower) to mastering a ‘pop up’
The Riad Accommodation And Meals
- Accommodation is set in a boutique style Riad located within the old town Medina and has been lovingly restored to its original Moorish glory
- The beautiful 18th Century Riad is situated just 300 metres from the sea right in the heart of the Medina
- Positioned in the heart of the pedestrianised old city the 18th century Riad is now luxuriously renovated in Moorish style offering 8 rooms on a mezzanine floor
- There are 4 twin/double suites and 4 quadruple suites
- The rooms all open onto a light-filled interior patio with traditional Moroccan tiling
- All rooms are en-suite with lounge area, furnished in traditional Moroccan style
- It offers a beautiful sunny roof terrace with views of the sea and the roof of the Mellah (walled Jewish quarter)
- Moroccan meals can be served on request in the traditional restaurant
- Friendly and hospitable staff add to the charm and the character of the Riad
- All breakfasts are included in the price of your course
- Lunches and meals are not included but are typically inexpensive in Morocco
- Arrivals are on day 1 and departure is on day 4
- Wi-fi is available and works best in the lounge and lobby area

- A pick up from Marrakech or Agadir airport with a transfer to your hotel is included in the price
