French Pastry And Baking Cookery Holiday

Bordeaux Region, Bordeaux, France

Holiday itinerary

Relaxed and informal lessons will teach you everything you need to know to make melt-in-your-mouth brioches, berry and apple tarts, croissants, macaroons, breads, barvarois and many more sweet treats. By the end of the week, you’ll have mastered the tricky art of mille-feuille and know how to turn light, crispy and airy choux pastry into delicious éclairs, croquembouche, Paris-Brest and Saint-Honoré.

Classes are taught in English by experienced and passionate pastry cook Marlène whose enviable skills have been passed down through the generations of her food-loving French family. The course features plenty of tuition, with at least three hours of lessons on four of the seven days. Each evening you’ll enjoy your creations and those of your fellow chefs when they are served as part of a delicious three-course meal.

As well as baking lessons, guests also take a trip to a local pâtisserie in nearby Casteljaloux where there is a chance to sample its pastry treats over a cup of coffee. As well as a great treat for anyone with a sweet tooth, this is the time to find inspiration for your own pastry creations and experience the tastes and textures you’ll be striving for in your own bakes.

On another morning, you’ll take a trip to an artisan chocolaterie in Nérac, where you can sample its age-old and latest recipes and take back some handmade local chocolate to use in your pastries. There will also be time to enjoy the beautiful river town of Nérac, take in its castle and soak up its rich tradition of great food and wine. Guests can also visit the fortified town of Vianne, a glass-making centre and one of the few bastides left in France.

With long lunches and leisurely breakfasts you’ll find you also have plenty of time to relax on this French pâtisserie holiday. You’ll find you finish baking in plenty of time to sit back and relax with an aperitif before dinner, chill-out with friends or soak up the evening sun in the house’s gardens.

On the final day of the French pâtisserie holiday, guests enjoy a free day to further explore the towns, markets, history and gastronomic delights of the Lot-et Garonne area. You may decide to take a walk or cycle in the countryside, head to one of the area’s many vineyards or experience the luxurious thermal baths and indulgent treatments on offer in the nearby spa town of Casteljaloux.
