Holiday itinerary
Set right in the heart of Moscow, beside the central Boulevard Ring is enthusiastic cook, Victoria’s homely cookery school where you’ll learn to cook delicious Russian dishes using local produce from the Moscow region.
Under the guidance of your fun and friendly Russian hosts Victoria and her team of professional chefs, who are all passionate about Russian cookery, you will immerse yourself in Russian life to discover the gastronomic delights of Moscow. Many locals also take part on her popular course giving you a truly authentic Russian experience.
The aim of the course is to give you the skills to cook a great Russian 3 course menu with side dishes to impress your friends back home.
All ingredients used are locally produced but Victoria and the chefs always ensure they are ones that you can easily buy back home so dishes can be easily recreated.
The school is ideally located just a few minutes’ walk from Kurskaya, Trugenevskaya and Christye Prudy metro stops, perfect for combining the cooking course with other tourist attractions during your stay in Moscow.
Suitability
- Suitable for all levels from complete beginners to experienced foodies
- Your hosts are Russian but speak perfect English and all classes will be in English
- Minimum age: 15 (children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult)
Russian Cookery Course Start Days
- This Russian cooking course in Moscow runs Wednesday and Saturday year round
- Classes start at 12.00 and finish at around 15.00
- Other dates and times may be available on request, please email with your requests
Russian Cooking Course Itinerary
- You will be met by your chef at the start of the lesson and will go through the menu for the course; the menu is very varied and carefully chosen by Victoria and the chefs to use the best seasonal ingredients
- Cooking classes run for around 3 hours and during that time you’ll learn to cook a variety of dishes and courses
- After the class, around 2.30pm you’ll sit down together to enjoy the meal you’ve learned to cook accompanied by wine or another local Russian drink, vodka for example, and experience true Russian hospitality
What Will I Learn?
- Courses concentrate on the cuisine of Russia, but also as a native Armenian, Victoria is also knowledgeable about Caucasian, Ukrainian and Central Asian dishes
-As locals, your hosts are very knowledgeable about Moscow and the surrounding area, and will be able to teach you all about the origin of ingredients used, the names of the dishes and Russian traditions in general
- At the start of your stay, your chef will discuss the daily menu and what you will cover during your one day course
Sample Russian Menus
Dishes vary according to the season and what food is available but may include:
- Famous Russian Borscht with beet roots
- Oliver Salad known as Russian Salad
- Siberian Pelmeni (Dumplings) with mince meat
- "Rasstegay" open pies with salmon filling
- "Pirozhki" – Russian pies from yeast dough with different fillings
- Pancakes with Smetana, “vatrushki” pies with cottage cheese
- “Herring under the Fur Coat” Salad
- Ukha (fish soup from Tzar times)
Wines are carefully chosen to accompany the food you’ve learned to cook
